Maureen Gillespie

A couple of new frames for local artist Maureen Gillespie. A gorgeous gold frame and simple mount for one of her prints and an elegant black wooden frame for this lovely little painting of a boy leading his horse from the stables. You can find for of Maureen's work here... http://www.artbymaureengillespie.co.uk

Floated print

Here's a wonderful print we had in for framing a couple of weeks ago. We floated it over a grey mount with matching side walls to keep it away from the glass and then framed it in a simple black moulding. There are lovely details all over the print, little creatures everywhere, really gorgeous :-)

The Hobbit

This is a replica of a prop used in the film The Hobbit: An Unexpected journey. We've floated it in a simple black frame which presents it nicely, allowing the viewer to see all the ageing thats been worked into the map...However this map...and the frame...have a magic secret up their Hobbity sleeves...

You'll have to wait for the next post to see what that secret is.... :-)

Reframing

We've been reframing this beautiful ink drawing this morning. It came into us in a rather tired white frame which gave the piece a cold, worn look. Rather than using a white mount as was originally used, we've used a light, off green mount which is a much better match for the paper the work has been done on. Then we've echoed the chunky black frame with a deep black bevel under the mount that really makes this piece sing once more :-)

Black and Red frame

Here's the frame that was bright red the other day...it was then coated in black and gently rubbed back to let some of the red show through, then a wax and polish and this is the finished look :-)

Colourful undercoat...

Here are a few frames in various stages of the painting process, the white one is an inner tray for a canvas, it's just getting a couple of coats of primer. The green one is a gessoed frame that's just had its first coat of paint, several more to follow. And the bright red one (Atomic Red by Little Greene, for those of you wondering) is actually going to be finished in black, but I want to rub the final frame back to reveal some of this warmth underneath...:-)

Stained Glass

Here's something a little different that came in for framing the other day. A stained glass panel that needed framing with an open back to allow the light to shine through. We've used an aluminium satin black frame which we lined before putting the glass in to cushion it from the frame. The photo doesn't do justice to the artwork, the colours are gorgeous :-)

White Gold Apple Tree

This is one of my paintings that I've framed up for an exhibition next week (details below). I've used white gold in the painting, so I've echoed this in the framing using a similarly coloured slip. Surrounding that is a super glossy black frame. A hopefully super stylish look :-)

Metallic Frames

A couple of metal fronted frames in today, one silver, one bronze. You can't really see that well in this photo, but the sides and inner lip on these frames are black, which stops the metal being too 'bling' :-)

Some beautiful calligraphy being framed today. We've used a thick black frame and floated the mount over the artwork. :-) delicious coffee too :-)
