New pottery arrives
We've some wonderful new pottery come into the shop today, gorgeous glazes! Here's a little bit of information about the potter, Alison Randle.
Alison has recently returned to an early passion for pottery and has been training at The Lansdown Pottery in Stroud where she has been able to develop her interest in glazes, especially the Oriental glazes.
Some, such as the green celadon, are used singly and simply whilst others such as Takeshi, titanium and copper reds are applied in layers to give less predictable results. Every piece is unique.
The pieces Alison creates are designed to be used - function is as important as form.

Old meets new
We've been reframing a beautiful old watercolour today as part of a set of frames for a customer. A couple of the pieces were older and a couple modern prints, we've framed all of them in waxed oak and the others were all done with double mounts. However on this one we wanted to hold onto a little more of the history of the piece, so we've used a gold fillet instead of a second mount. I've rubbed the gold back a little to reveal some of the red clay underneath, this gives it a better match to the painting, the red being seen in the rooftops in the painting, and the slightly distressed look of the gold balancing the age of the picture.

The Cuckoo's Nest
Put the first of the new signs up this morning, thought I'd get that job done before the rains arrive :-)

Giant Robot
Framed up this beautiful Tom Gauld picture today, a wonderful piece to have in the shop. The print is on a quality paper with a nice decal edge so we've floated the print above the mount board which really enhances the special, arty feel of the piece.

Buckingham Palace
We've had a lovely job to work on today, a photo of a solider & his wife along with their invitation to a garden party at Buckingham Palace, a really special memory to frame up for them. Anyway we've gone for a simple waxed oak frame with a double mount of cream over green. I really enjoyed this one :-)

From old to new
We've had a couple of lovely old watercolours in for reframing this week, they arrived in this state.....
They're going back to their home in a Cornish holiday cottage, so we've framed them both in oak, one simply waxed, one limed to add to the seaside feel.
It's really refreshened them both and allowed some beautiful old paintings to be viewed anew.
