Maureen Gillespie

A couple of new frames for local artist Maureen Gillespie. A gorgeous gold frame and simple mount for one of her prints and an elegant black wooden frame for this lovely little painting of a boy leading his horse from the stables. Lorna Marrison & Norman Hayes

Two different customers, two different artists...but similar subjects and the same framing...both are views of Eynsham, the one on the left is by Lorna Marrison, the piece on the right by Norman Hayes. We've used a light gold frame with simple double mounts. This particular frame really works well the Cotswold stone colours in both these beautiful pictures.

David Shepherd ' Savuti Elephants'

A beautiful canvas print by David Shepherd titled 'Savuti Elephants'.

We've used a gold frame with a cloth slip and second small slip within that to match the gold on the frame. A beautiful piece that makes a great addition to any art collection. You can find more of David's work at http://www.davidshepherd.com

Certificates

Very busy in the shop this week, making a new display wall for our framing samples (more on that when its done). Back to the main task at hand though today, here we have a set of A4 frames made up for a customer that needs to put certificates in themselves. We've used a bendable fitting on the back that allows them to open them up and a classic mahogany coloured frame with a gold highlight should show off the certificates perfectly. Well done to everyone that receives one :-)

Gold frame

A lovely bird painting here, we've set the canvas in a pale tray and then framed everything in a beautiful gold frame....wouldn't mind this hanging on my wall :-)

White Gold Apple Tree

This is one of my paintings that I've framed up for an exhibition next week (details below). I've used white gold in the painting, so I've echoed this in the framing using a similarly coloured slip. Surrounding that is a super glossy black frame. A hopefully super stylish look :-)

Metallic Frames

A couple of metal fronted frames in today, one silver, one bronze. You can't really see that well in this photo, but the sides and inner lip on these frames are black, which stops the metal being too 'bling' :-)

One of my paintings framed

This is one of my paintings that I've framed in a dark wooden tray with a waxed oak frame. It's on show at the SOTA gallery in Witney currently and I'll be in there this Friday doing a painting demonstration on a similar portrait :-) call in and say hi if you're in the area :-)

Busy, busy week

Some of the sample chevrons and frames assembled and ready for paint/gesso. Lots of frames out of shot waiting to have their glass cut tomorrow....no room to swing a cat...good thing I've got a dog....curry, beer, sleep and then back to the framing in the morning, then I need to start on a portrait commission in the afternoon...why are there only 7 days in a week, it's not enough... :-)

Mirror mirror on the wall...

Here's the first of the gesso frames we're producing now. This one has been gilded in white gold, painted in off-white, limed and aged, then fitted with a beveled mirror. It's 19x23 inches and is on display in the shop now :-)

Cutting

Some of the frame cutting I've been working on this morning. Bottom left are a new selection of oak mouldings we've got in stock now. The rest are all going to be gessoed and gilded for a series of paintings that will form the core of our winter exhibition next month.

Old meets new

We've been reframing a beautiful old watercolour today as part of a set of frames for a customer. A couple of the pieces were older and a couple modern prints, we've framed all of them in waxed oak and the others were all done with double mounts. However on this one we wanted to hold onto a little more of the history of the piece, so we've used a gold fillet instead of a second mount. I've rubbed the gold back a little to reveal some of the red clay underneath, this gives it a better match to the painting, the red being seen in the rooftops in the painting, and the slightly distressed look of the gold balancing the age of the picture.
