Moonassi Print

A beautiful print by artist Moonassi from South Korea. This piece is titled ‘The Value of Suffering’. well worth checking out the website http://www.moonassi.com

A simple black frame with a white spacer to set the artwork back from the glass is all that was needed for this calm, thoughtful image, really lovely :)

Tim Layzell

This gorgeous racing print is by Tim Layzell. Titled ‘Carrera takes Targa’ it showcases Layzell’s dynamic, graphic style perfectly.

We’ve framed it with a double mount of blue over black and used UV glass to protect the print. The frame was machined down to a slightly thinner size than standard, to get the perfect width and depth for the piece, this was then gessoed, sanded and painted.

Its a wonderful, dramatic piece that would appeal to petrol-heads and art lovers alike :)

You can see more of Tim’s work on his website at http://www.timlayzell.com

Valerie Wartelle

This print is amazing! It's by Valerie Wartelle and the original piece was made using fibres. It's then been beautifully photographed and printed, with the print having a wonderful three dimensional effect and velvety finish. We've framed it using a wide classical moulding which we've painted white. An absolutely gorgeous piece...you can find out more about Valerie's work at http://www.valeriewartelle.co.uk

Aboriginal Art

These are a couple of aboriginal style prints on cloth from Australia. We used a black frame with silver detailing and an off white mount. We've set the artwork at the back of the frame using coloured sidewalls in each frame, one blue and one orange to compliment the colours in the artwork. These lovely mementoes of our customers trip ‘down-under’ have now become pieces of artwork to be treasured.

Print of Ravello

Normally at the Cuckoo's Nest we try and steer our customers towards modern, contemporary framing as much as possible, but occasionally traditional is the way to go. Such was the case with this beautiful little print of Ravello, our customer was having the piece framed as a gift for an older gentleman so we selected this thin black and gold frame moulding. In the past this might have been coupled with a hand lined mount, but this really does give a picture a dated feel. Instead of that we opted to use a double mount with a dark grey lower mount, this balances the colour of the print with the frame and gives us a traditional looking frame with a fresh feel.

Silk Print

This is a lovely silk print of some fish, the colours are amazing, this photo really doesn't do them justice. We've used a rich deep red mount and an oak frame which we've button polished to really bring out the warmth of the wood. Button polish doesn't work with everything, but the colours in this are so rich, it's the perfect choice.

Banksy

Something a little different here, this is a Banksy print, originally framed by another framer, but in need of some new glass after a little accident. Luckily there was no damage to the print, so with a bit of a clean up and a new piece of UV glass in place it's all ready to go back up the wall. You can learn about Banksy's current project in New York here... http://www.banksyny.com

A sub frame

This beautiful eastern print came in for some repair work recently. The glass had broken and the frame was looking a little tired. The frame is quite thin for the size of glass needed, so we build a new sub frame on the back, this is basically a plain wood frame build purely for strength onto the back of the main frame. Once that was done we touched up the black frame areas with a combination of paint and wax and then fixed the main chips on the gold areas with a gold wax. New glass, fittings and a clean and this amazing piece of artwork has been given a new lease of life.

Summer holidays

Here we have two lovely leaf prints done by a customers children during a summer art class. Printed onto cotton they have a beautiful feel to them, something you only ever get with handmade prints. We've paired them in a single frame with a triple mount, the black and birch mounts to enhance the individual prints and a final white mount to pull everything together. This would look great on anyone's wall but will be all the more special for the artists and their family, a wonderful memory of summer :-)

David Cameron

Today we've been framing up a fantastic set of caricatures of the Prime Minister, David Cameron. These were drawn for the Witney Music Festival in 2011. Each one has been signed by the Prime Minister and we've mounted a copy of a letter of authentication to the back of each frame. They now going on sale to raise money for a local charity, Sobell House. Hopefully they'll raise lots of money for a wonderful cause :-) contact SOTA for further details :-)

Sam Toft print

Framing up a really great print by Sam Toft today, love her work so it's great to have something in to take a closer look at. We've gone for a simple grey frame to echo some of the sky colour and really allow the other colours to glow :-)
