Valentines day.....for dogs....

With valentines day nearly upon us, I thought I'd post one of the more unusual jobs we've done recently. This is a canvas print of two dog cherubs!...It's going to be hanging in a London bar this Friday night, so owners can have their dogs pose,in couples, in front of it... and have their photos taken...I told you it was unusual :-) We've taken the rolled canvas and put it onto stretcher bars, so a nice simple job and something very different for the romantic dog lover :-)

John Stezaker photo

Here's a very interesting piece we had in for framing last week. A photo by artist John Stezaker. The image is heading off for an exhibition and the framing needed to match the existing pieces that had already been framed, lucky we managed to find the same frame, so it was just a case of making an inner spacer to keep the glass away from the photo as there's no mount. This is a lovely way to frame photos, especially something as conceptual as this.

You can find about more about Stezaker's work here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stezaker

Gesso

Here are some of the frames that we're working on this week. They're all going to be coated with gesso, which gives them a beautiful smooth finish. We've assembled the bare wood frames today and mixed some rabbit skin glue up ready to size them tomorrow, they should then be ready for 'many' coats of gesso on Friday. :-)

Clockwise from the top left we have a frame for a comic book cover, a frame for my nephews UK bedroom ;-) and a frame for an artist whose work is heading off for exhibition in a London gallery, so they wanted some extra special...an eclectic mix as always :-)

Framing a Turner

This is a gorgeous, small painting by Alfie Turner. It's one of a pair heading off to the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London this year. We've gone for a rich blue tray to match the sky colour in the painting and then a calm off white frame to set everything off. Really lovely painting, good luck Alfie :-)
