Stained Glass

Here we have a beautiful stained glass panel. Rather than use a conventional frame, we've produced an oak stand which has a grove inside to hold the panel securely. The oak has been finished with a lime wax and given a good polish. The piece is now standing on the customers windowsill with the spring sunshine showing it off in all it's glory :-)

Marbling

This pair of beautiful images are done with a marbling technique, ink floated on water and then paper floated over that to pick up the ink...at least I'm guessing that's how they've been done :-) We've framed them in matching oak frames, but used different coloured mounts to enhance each individual picture. A couple of very unusual and very interesting pictures.

Batik

A lovely batik piece here that we've framed very simply with a thin stained oak frame, plain mount and diffuse glass. Sometimes you don't want the frame to shout and draw your eye to the artwork, this was one of those occasions, the beautiful artwork is all the better for being simply presented.

An African village

We've framed up at least a dozen African pieces similar to this one over the last couple of months. Very evocative pieces that people have picked up on their travels, rolled into a tube and brought home with them to be framed...they present a variety of challenges depending on how the customer wants them framed and what the artist has painted them on....we did one that the customer wanted stretched like a canvas, but the artist had painted in on a very thin bed sheet....that required a delicate touch...:-) This piece was much simpler, painted on a good solid support we were free to frame in anyway we liked. As you can see, we went for a deep oak frame which we simply waxed. A double mount with blue at the bottom and a matching blue sidewall to reflect the colours in the artwork. The customer was really delighted with the end result and the piece can now take pride of place and remind them of their adventures. :-)

A Purple Spacer

We've framed up this print of Jericho in Oxford by Mavis Burley today. As with yesterday's framing post we've used a colour spacer to compliment one of the colours in the piece and on this occasion we've used a simple oak frame to finish things off. :-)

Tapestry part two...

Here's the tapestry all framed up. There's quite a bit going on behind the scenes in this one, so I'll try and do a more detailed explanation of how it's all put together at a later date (need sleep now ;-))

We've used a deep oak frame with a double mount, birch over vanilla...unusually sensible colour names in this instance :-). Really shows the piece off well :-)

Tapestry

Just pinning this tapestry, it's now all ready for the back to be laced. This allows us to get an even tension across the piece, keeping it straight and flat. Off to build the frame now, I'll show you the finished article tomorrow when I've assembled all the pieces :-)

Oak frames part two

Here are a couple of the smaller oak frames we were building yesterday. One has had a dark stain, one is natural, both waxed and now surrounding some lovely prints. The upper one is by Gemma Pearce, the lower one by Anna Dillon.

One of my paintings framed

This is one of my paintings that I've framed in a dark wooden tray with a waxed oak frame. It's on show at the SOTA gallery in Witney currently and I'll be in there this Friday doing a painting demonstration on a similar portrait :-) call in and say hi if you're in the area :-)

May the frames be with you...

Well here's a very varied selection of images to have on the bench altogether. The pheasant painting is in a waxed oak frame with a double mount. A simple black frame with white mount for the storm trooper poster...and a lovely print from the Yellow Hat Gallery...there aren't many things you can frame in bright purple, but this looks gorgeous :-)
