Handmade frame all finished

LOTS of framing going on in the studio at the moment, but much of it is for Christmas presents, so I'm not posting too much in here:-)

Here's one thing we can post though, the finished handmade frame we put together recently. A gessoed outer frame with a painted inner tray, and a coloured spacer. :-)

Custom, handmade frames

Setting up various sample pieces for a custom, handmade frame today. We've got a swept outer frame which has been gessoed, painted and waxed. Then we have a spacer in a highlight colour to draw out some of the colours in the painting. Then we have a back wall and small inner frame to hold the painting, these have been painted and waxed to match the outer frame. We're still discussing a couple of other options, so the final frame may differ a little :-)

These custom frames can be build in many styles and 'any' colour you desire, so they're perfect for that special piece of artwork that you really want to sing in your home :-)

Pink Elephants...sort of...

Things
I'm just waiting for some things to dry, so I thought I'd post another of today's frames. This print on cloth has been simply mounted and framed in aluminium, with UV Artglass to preserve the vibrant colours. A really fun piece to work on :-)

Red...

Had a couple of days off with man flu last week, so lots of catching up to do. First out of the blocks are a lovely couple of pieces by one of our younger artist clients. We've framed them in red with a red spacer at the side and then the artwork is floated over red velvet style mount board. Very striking :-)

Busy, busy week

Some of the sample chevrons and frames assembled and ready for paint/gesso. Lots of frames out of shot waiting to have their glass cut tomorrow....no room to swing a cat...good thing I've got a dog....curry, beer, sleep and then back to the framing in the morning, then I need to start on a portrait commission in the afternoon...why are there only 7 days in a week, it's not enough... :-)

May the frames be with you...

Well here's a very varied selection of images to have on the bench altogether. The pheasant painting is in a waxed oak frame with a double mount. A simple black frame with white mount for the storm trooper poster...and a lovely print from the Yellow Hat Gallery...there aren't many things you can frame in bright purple, but this looks gorgeous :-)

Mirror mirror on the wall...

Here's the first of the gesso frames we're producing now. This one has been gilded in white gold, painted in off-white, limed and aged, then fitted with a beveled mirror. It's 19x23 inches and is on display in the shop now :-)

Portrait commission - Natasha

We've had a visit from Natasha this morning, she was sitting for some photos and discussing her painting commission. I'll be doing some sketches from the photos we've taken over the next week or so and then work on the painting can begin in mid November. It's going to be in the black, white and gold style of the other 'girl' paintings I've done this year. I'll be posting photos of the piece as it develops, so watch this space :-)

Painting commission

Here's a painting commission we did for a customer last week. They had moved from the house on the left to the one on the right and wanted a piece to commemorate this occasion. I paint commissions in many different styles, in this instance, swirling watercolour was the one chosen :-). Once the painting was finished, I framed it with a simple double mount and contemporary black moulding.

For further information on commissioning a piece, just email or call Graham :-)

Red suede

Here are the last two frames that have gone out to Hook & Eye in Witney. Silver, black & red suede... All very passionate :-)

Oh I do like to be by the seaside...

Another deep frame today. A lovely little seascape. I've put it in a limed oak frame, which automatically gives you a seaside/driftwood feel. Then it's floated 10mm over white mount board, the difference with this one is I've added a blue mount board spacer to the side. It really sets the painting off nicely and I'll recommend this technique to customers again :-)

Reframing

This gorgeous watercolour came in for reframing having been dropped and damaged, a new silver moulding and a clean have restored it to its former glory :-)

Adding depth to a frame

A couple of lovely little prints in for framing today, now behind Artglass, so no nasty reflections. Both have been set back in the frame, the red hares are float mounted and then set back using foamboard along the inner edge of the frame. The Picasso like figure is set back in the black frame using a matching spacer. Both use a simple technique to really enhance the framing and make the prints that extra bit special :-)

Cutting

Some of the frame cutting I've been working on this morning. Bottom left are a new selection of oak mouldings we've got in stock now. The rest are all going to be gessoed and gilded for a series of paintings that will form the core of our winter exhibition next month.

I wish we'd had school photos this good when my son was younger, these are fantastic. Really colourful and the photographer captured some great expressions. Lots more colour in the framing, blue for a boy and pink for a girl...lots of fun :-)
